Talk:Gurps Tables

Hello, this chart is a lot of fun.

I have a couple suggestions to add in more morphological variety:

Hi Eleazar, I'm glad you're having fun with the chart! I haven't done much revision of this part of the chart, and I think you're absolutely right that the range of options is lacking/skewed. I will do a pass on it soon, and incorporate your suggestions. I think I'll probably split Symmetry out as its own table preceding the Limbs table, and make sure that table includes Asymmetry as an option. Aidan 07:52, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Basic Shape

Limbs and Symmetry (Roll 2d)

The number of limbs the creature has, and the pattern in which they are arranged, must be determined before gong further. Unless otherwise specified, beings are bilaterally symmetrical, like humans, pigs, insects and worms. Creatures which are radially symmetrical are basically "circular," with limbs evenly spaced around the perimeter. The classic Terran example is the starfish.

2* One or no limbs, roll 2d:
          2-10 = One Manipulator. Radially symmetrical on a 1-2 on 1d.
          11-12 = No Manipulators. Radially symmetricalon 1-3 on 1d.
3 Two limbs. Radially Symmetrical on a 1 on 1d
4 Three limbs. Radially symmetrical on a 1-4 on 1d.
5-7 Four limbs. Radially symmetrical on a 1 on 1d.
8-10 Six limbs. Radially symmetrical on a 1-2 on 1d.
11 Five limbs. Radially symmetrical on a 1-4 on 1d.
12 +6 limbs. Radially symmetrical on 1-3 on 1d.

*Creatures like snakes and worms fall into this category.

>>>upped chance of hexapods to decrease quadruped dominati0n, and added 5 limbed creatures

Asymmetry (Roll 3d)

Some creatures, like sponges and plants are neither bilateral or radialy symmetric.

Aquatic +1
Odd number of limbs +1
Sessile +3
Rooted Ergivore +10

1-11 No change
12+ Asymmetrical. If not Sessile, take another level of Reduced Move.

>>> added in asymmetry

Extra Limbs

Many creatures have "extra" limbs (tail, trunk, prehensile tounge, pseudopods, tendrils) that can be used for manipulation. These often vary in strength, dexterity, and sensitivity. Roll a die on the chart below.

Number of Extra Limbs (Roll 1d)
No limbs +3
One limb +2
Two or Three limbs +1
Six or more limbs -1

1-4 No extra limb
5 1 extra limb
6 1d+3 extra limbs
Strength of Extra Limbs (Roll 1d)
One or fewer regular limbs +1

1-2 Flimsy (feeler, cilia, whiskers). ST 1
3-4 Weak (human lips). ST 2
5 Fair (monkey tail). ST-4
6 Strong (Elephant trunk). Same as primary limbs.
Dexterity of Extra Limbs (Roll 1d)
One or fewer regular limbs +1

1-3 Crude. DX-4
4-5 Fair. DX
6 Excellent. DX+2
Tactile Sensitivity of Extra Limbs (Roll 1d)
One or fewer regular limbs +1

1-2 Crude. Reduced Manual Dexterity-2
3-4 Fair. Manual Dexterity as normal
5 Excellent. Increased Manual Dexterity+1, Sensitive Touch
6 Fair, has excellent "other" sense built in

<<< upped chances if the creature has few regular limbs

...

Asymmetrical, or Radially Symmetrical Posture (Roll 1d)
Brachiator +2
Swimmer/Amphibious/Sea Bound -1

0-2 Invertebrate
3-5 Semi-Upright
6 Upright

<<< changed title so asymmetrical creatures use this chart
