Dryopoda/Notes
From Sedes Draconis
[edit]
Earth Analogues
Their gill branches (which in all octopods are already safely enclosed in the mantle) develop non-stick like those of terrestrial vertebrates and robber crabs.
Mucous glands develop on the skin to keep it from desiccating in the air, parallel to the development of land amphibians, gastropods, and flatworms.

Design Process
Some other people have designed non-aquatic cephalopods with various degrees of similarity to the Dryopoda, such as the Pacific Northwest tree octopus and the Swampus and Squibbons in The Future is Wild (See also my review of Future is Wild). For the record, my initial work in designing the Dryopoda was done before I encountered any of these other works.
