Karis
A ConScript by Maknas.
Origins
Internal: Karis is used in throughout most of Karat. Each symbol is ultimately a greatly simplified hieroglyphic, giving each syllable a special, abstract meaning that only Kari priests can read.
External: Originally, I was planning on making a logographic script for the Kari people, and had a list of a few basic logograms. I then decided not to, and each logographic symbol simplified and became a letter in Karis.
Notable Features:
- Written top to bottom, from left to right.
- A featural alphabet (like Korean), with each syllable being composed of several letters, yet only taking up a single block of space.
- Uses triconsonantal roots for verb conjugation.
- Adjectives become part of nouns
Used to write: Karis and a few other languages spoken in Karat.

Transliteration:
- Sirabra kla iadanalaqaralk ki iadanalasipia.
- Ji'anas, vu jufin dlas mra mabinaladanal ki pukiz ga pazin ni mra danal a Sinar, ki vu humit tar.
- Vu tudis ad wunas "Jarin. Qihuk kla siv hraran ki dituv da'inu." Vu kla siv hraran van siv anusa ki azfaldu van miran.
Gloss:
- World {gen} one-language and one-speech
- Eventually, they travel[III, pt] from the east-land and find[III, pt] a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwell[III, pt] there.
- They speak[III, pt] to one-another "Come! Make[II] {gen} {pl} brick and bake[II] thoroughly." They {gen} {pl} brick as {pl} stone and asphalt as mortar.
Translation:
- Now the whole earth had one language and one speech.
- And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there.
- Then they said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly." They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.
